Itinerary: Camping with full ablutions but no electricity
- Thursday 1 April 2021: Rendezvous at the Sasol garage just outside Kinross on the N17. Please note we will depart from the Sasol garage at 08:00 sharp. We have around 350km to travel in convoy through rural South Africa via Volksrust, Utrecht and Vryheid before we reach Ithala Game Reserve entrance gate. Last major town before we enter Ithala Game Reserve is Vryheid. Fuel is available at the reserve gate. We will check in at main reception some distance from the entrance gate. Our camp site is Doornkraal in the heart of the reserve. Please note: Doornkraal is unfenced (Big 4 game reserve), no electricity available, does have particularly good ablutions with hot showers and flush toilets. The campsite is situated in a valley next to the Mbizane river.
- Friday 2 April, Saturday 3 April, and Sunday 4 April: Early morning coffee and rusks before game drives in the reserve. We will traverse gravel roads and 4×4 routes in the reserve. Ithala has designated picnic spots with ablution facilities where we will have brunch before returning to camp or reception facilities for a swim or drinks on the patio overlooking a water hole. An abundance of game so spot, prolific birdlife, scenic routes, unique fauna and flora, picturesque hills and valleys, “beautiful” soil erosion dongas, etc. Afternoon game drives and sundowners at designated spots.
- Monday 5 April: Return home; +-350km to Gauteng.
